Its a cast iron piece. Basically it was a torsion lab for the pieces and it was supposed to demonstrate how brittle and ductile materials break in torsion. Pretty basic but breakin stuff at 8am on monday mornings starts the week off right

That spiral on the first piece, was that straight before twisting it?

correct. Aluminum is very ductile. Actually twisted 518* before it ruptured. Cast iron? was only 2xx*

I always thought aluminum was more brittle than that.
