i got a new camera
All you really need to do it put a little scrap of white paper over your flash and you can get some really nice pics. Look: (and I did nothing other than resize these.)
This is one with just the flash:

And this one with a scrap of plain white paper over the flash:

It's a good idea, you might want to try something a bit thinner than a piece of paper tho (well, i guess there is some really thin paper out there..). With paper, I think, the light would reflect back more than diffuse out. Might wanna try something a bit thinner. A napkin, or some parchment paper maybe. Might be worth it to experiment with different materials.
I always use my rice paper. Like the kind that you use for windows and stuff. You can get it with sticky on the back, so that you can just cut a little piece and stick it to the flash. That way you don't loose it or forget it. And its really thin.
Yeah I was gonna say something like that (or the stuff you use for like chinese lanterns, which migh be the same stuff anyway?) but couldn't think of the name of it, so I said parchment paper.
Just remember kiddos diffusion=good, reflection=bad. :B
Trying to shoot a concert with a crappy camera and a flash with no diffsion is the worst ever.
