Out of the box an evo is faster... but mitsu are not known for good reliability. However the Sti out of the box can handle better. All you would basically need to do is stick an exahust on the sti and it should be up to par with the evo.

and this show that the Evo is faster in the straight
I KNOW that the subaru has better reliability and cheaper insurance. Beat that. All in all it comes down to preference. They are very comprable cars. The EVO is said to have a stiffer suspension and less forgiving ride but more race ready. Where as the STi is just as fast and handles just as well. And has a comfortable ride to go with it. Plus nothing beats the sound of a boxer and the DCCD
this video is exactly why you should never buy a used WRX or STi.
people dog the crap out of them and then sell them when they get bored with them.
the only reason I sold my WRX is that gas was readily approaching $3 a gallon for regular, and I needed more space. I regret selling my WRX as soon as i did but i really do like my integra better.
I had the chance to buy another WRX last summer, but i said "NAAAAAHHHH" and got me the car i've wanted since I was in high school.

i would choose an sti over an evo any day of the week cheaper and faster
. i know two people in my town that have these cars and has the evo8 and the other 06 sti and the sti kills the evo everytime they race its awesome. the only thing i hate about the sti is those damn pink decals

I am a fan of the STi and would pick one over a EVO but dont kid yourself......the EVO is faster in turns, is faster on the straights, weighs less, and is cheaper to make ungodly fast. Also the EVO and STi's ride are very comparable and no the STi is not any cheaper really. For me it comes down to I like the sound of the flat 4 and the looks of the STi better.
almost every review i've read shows the EVO slightly quicker 0-60 mph but slightly slower in the quarter compared to the STi, which has more grunt but looser gearing.
that said I would NEVER buy a mitsubishi because of their quality control issues and lousy dealer service. the fact that an EVOs interior just plain sucks, doesn't help matters.
that wing on the back is much cooler than the STi's though. lol.
