Input bearing replaced, new clutch! lots of pics
So some of you may know that my input bearig was going bad/was bad. It's diagnoseable from a grinding sound when the clutch is out (rather than when the clutch depressed like the throwout bearing). Well anyway, I started going after it today and made a little bit of progress in between beers with my bud who was kindly helping me out.

half shafts removed, tranny fluid drained. Btw, anyone having trouble with the ball joint, there's an awesome trick that makes them really easy to do.

i don't know what those things are called (roller pin maybe?) but i had to hammer it out to slide the shift linkage off

i decided to leave everything organized so i'm not missing nuts and bolts later...

all harnesses removed, only one or two bolts left attaching the two...all that's left is to disconnect the tranny mount and drop it.

undoing the last support for the trans, the tranny mount.

Supporting the engine and trans, about to slide the trans off the block.

The old clutch plate

Inside of tranny

my work space, with helms and bearings in the lower left corner

this pictures is actually pretty cool...the source of all my problems is that little bearing. the plastic spacer that holds the ***** equidistant had shattered and i found remnants in my tranny. You can see how all the little ***** are on the same side-definitely not good. It rattles when you spin it. You can see the new one on the right. I also replaced the throwout bearing cuz you might as well when you already have the tranny off.

This is the new pressure plate with the new clutch inside and the clutch alligning tool in there. I'm screwing in the new bolts on the housing.
More pics to come as soon as I get around to finishing! comments appreciated.

sweet man i'm glad to hear your project is coming along and yes autocrossing is super addictive. i went with an exedy oem clutch, i'll have pictures of everything, including the bad bearing (kinda cool actually), the new good one, the gearbox, and the new clutch later tonight.
making you work hard eh, we had to put a LSD in a honda tranny once, we poped the tranny out, put in the LSD and put it toughter in about a hour or less. That was pretty fun, looks like you guys are doing a good job..
