Default ABS light

After you turn the engine on, for how long should the ABS light stay lid? It is staying on for about 2 seconds in my car after I turn the key to position II? Is this normal?
Maybe a stupid question but I am a Civic newbie...
Please help...

Hi guys! My car is 1995 civic ex automatic with ABS and I noticed that there are times whenever I start the engine in the morning especially when the engine is cold, I hear a pumping sound (pumping air) for 30 sec to about a minute and then the ABS just stays lit right after the sound stops. Can someone please tell me what that means and what should I do. I unerstand that the ABS should not stay lit more than 3 sec. I had to turn the engine off and on several times (3 times atleast) just to turn-off the ABS light. Thanks in advance.
