Default Front Wheel bearing and hub?

Hey I got a 98 Civic EX 2Dr. I took it to the shop today to figure out what the deal was with the front drivers side wheel and they said it needed a wheel bearing and possibly a new hub because they usually crack when they take them off. So they charge about $150 for both the hub and the bearing a piece. I went to the local parts shop and I can get a Timken bearing for about $40 something but Im having a hard time finding the front wheel hub. Found a few for over $100 but Im looking for something cheaper. I found a whole assembly on ebay and was wondering if anyone knew if this is really for the front because Im not sure exactly what it looks like. here's the URL http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ksid=p3907.m32 Please check it out and let me know, or if you know anywhere I can find the hub for a few bucks cheaper.

My recommendation:

Pull the knuckle yourself. Purchase a good OEM wheel bearing. Take your knuckle to a shop and have them remove the bad bearing and press in the new bearing. My guess is that this will cost less than $50. Re-install knuckle and you are good to go.

Oh so the bearing is inside the hub? So I dont have to actually take the car there? Is it easy to pop off? I like that idea better than paying $450 for a machanic to do it all just for one side. But I would like to know if that link I sent in my post is what I need, if anyone knows.

In my previous post, I mistakenly wrote hub when I meant knuckle. It's now fixed. You would remove the knuckle yourself, and a shop would then press the wheel hub and bearing out of the knuckle and then install the new bearing and the old hub. You only need a new bearing.

The ebay part looks correct, but you don't need the hub only the bearing. I recommend you buy a Honda bearing:

The diagrams below should also help. I have rented a Pitman tool from AutoZone (free) to separate the ball joints.

Does anyone know if there is a hub off a different vehicle that would fit this car? I was looking at the toyota corolla hubs and they have the same 4 lug pattern on it but dont know if it would fit. http://www.am-autoparts.com/AM/Front...3/AM-23999104/

i wouldn't use a different cars hub. we do around 2 Honda wheel bearings a week. the press really paid off. You can either go to a junkyard and get knew complete knuckles and hope they are not bad or have yours replaced

Just curious, what would your shop charge if someone brought a knuckle in to have the hub and bad bearing pressed out and pressed back in with a new bearing?
