Default problem with shocks/spring uninstall

After I got home from work today, I decided I might as well pull both my rear lca's and get them ready for the new poly bushings that should be here tomorrow. Well, I got everything off the car just fine, but I'm having problems with the shock... The nut at the top of the shock that (I believe) should come off to allow the shock and spring to be separated is just spinning (along with the dust sheild)... anybody know any ways to get the d@%m thing off? I forget what I did when I put my front springs on.... that was 3 months ago lol

(and yes, I have the spring already compressed with spring compressors... I don't want to get hit with a flying spring or anything lol)

need a hex wrench and box end wrench(the ratcheting ones work great on this). place the box end wrench on the nut and then the hex wrench on the tip of the shaft. hold the hex wrench while loosening the nut. once the nut is off the top hat will just come off.

all right, thanks man... I'll see if I can't get the thing off... I was thinking it had something to do with the hex bolt, but I wasn't quite sure.
