Question on Aftermarket Suspension Parts
Hey I've got a stock 2000 Civic EX Coupe and I really want to improve the suspension...what do you guys recommend as far as aftermarket parts are concerned. What would be the most important thing to replace AND actually feel the difference? Would it be struts, shocks, strut bars, etc.? I'm planning on getting some frame locks from www.korbachperformance.com which should improve the ride significantly. Let me know what you guys think...
Yeah, you've pretty much got the idea of where to start: Struts, springs, and sway bars. For struts, it's hard to go wrong with Tokico, KYB, Koni, Bilstein, etc. For springs, there's tons of possibilities, kind of depending on how much drop (if any) you want and how much you're looking to spend.
I have got the exact same car as you, and if you don't want to spend to much and still get a difference in handling, start with just racing springs. I picked up a set of H&R springs for my civic for about $150. It lowered my car about 1 to 2 inches and helped the handling alot too. Getting the other suspension components in the future will be good as well, if you have the money.
Thanks for your input guys, I would really like to get some different springs but I don't want to lower the car. I've owned a lowered car before and it was a @!#%@ to drive! However, I do agree that it improved the handling. So I guess if I were to lower the car, it wouldn't be more than 1 inch. One other question, do Civics have shocks or struts? Are there any differences in the brands of sway/strut bars?
