replacing wheel studs

replacing wheel studs
I have a 1997 civic ex coupe and I need to replace two wheel studs in my two front wheels. I read the DIY article, but I ran into a problem. After I grinded the stud down, I tried to hammer it through. When I did this the threads from the stud became ruined and the lug nut won't fit on. Did I do something wrong or is there anything else I can do?

RE: replacing wheel studs
I don't know how the studs go into a Honda ( I haven't looked at mine yet), but on my Jeeps I always just put a tiny dab of grease on the splines of the stud, then pushed the stud in as far as it will go by hand. To pop it fully into place and seat it, I put a couple of oversized washers on the threaded side and gradually tightened a lug onto it as I levered a wedge/chisel, on one side and then the other, under the washers. This pulled the splines all the way through for the stud to fully seat...no problems. Carefully clean up any excess lube/grease.

You hammered the new studs?
I had to have studs replaced on an Accord, but it's the same thingy. I didn't do it but I watched the mechanics do it. The new studs' threads shouldn't have been damaged since the threads don't touch the edges of the holes they go into. I guess you will need to redo the job, or jorb if you like Homestar Runner.
