struts
Hey guys, if you havnt noticed my post in two other thread concerning a broken bolt. (quik wrap up, head off mounting bolt from the bottom of the shock/strut assembly broke, as the nut is welded to the bracket, the bolt is stuck and i cant figur eou how to get it out, its prett seized in there)...(passenger rear of vehicule)
what i was wondering was if anyone knew a way to get it out? or will i have to cut hte braket in order to get it out, meaning i,d have to get new strut/shock assembly? im puttiing on some S.tech's so a full kit is not needed, just the strut/shock assembly in the rear.
should i look into front and rear struts to have them all changed at the same time, or jsut get the rear? any recomendations in brand and what to look for?
all i could find were tokico HP and monroe sensa-tracstrut assembly...
sorry bout the questions, its my first car, tight budget, so DIY is coming into play.
dont beleive this info is needed but its a 1997 civic LX/4dr.
thanks for all you help and recomendation.

if u buy new shocks, a slightly easier way around getting the bolt off than cutting it is breaking the tackweld on the nut of ur oem shock. once broken, take the nut off and place about an inch or more worth of washers and put the nut back on. tightening the nut will pull the bolt out little by little. i did that on my friends hatch when we broke the head of his bolt. it was coming out little by little when i decided to just replace the lca with my old lca, that way we just unbolted the other 2 lca bolts and the tophat bolts and droped the whole assemly out. put the new lca in with a new bolt and no problems.
before u put the bolts back in, clean them off with a wire brush and apply some antiseize on them, u'll be very happy u did later on...

yeh, the cleaning off the bolt, i knew about that...i kinda have to get new bolts. the left rear bolt on te strut/LCA bolt broke also but that was one as we were re-assembling it so we could slap in another temporary bolt. sucks cuz this one, the bolt is seized in the nut.
i jsut rechecked all the papers from the car, never had the shocks/struts replaced. car has now 176 000km, which is 110 000Miles. new strut/shock assembly would be the way to go right? or how much life is there left in the current stock ones?

with that many miles and since u'll be using lowering springs which will put some extra strain on the shock, it'd be a very good idea to get new shocks. better to place new shocks in now while ur taking ur current suspension off then have to take ur suspension apart again later on.
