Default Struts question

Hey guys, I change my suspension last summer, droped it with Tein S techs and all 4 new struts from monroe. Up her ein Eastern Canada, CRAZY winter, record breaking snowfall amount leading to numerous pot holes and road becoming unbarable. I was drivingon a road i wasnt familiar with, came into an area with TONS of pot holes and i did my best to avoid 80% of them, but beeing 4 in my car with snowboards and stuff, no way i could brake in time toabsorb the bump ahead ididnt i know was about to hit.I ended up taking all 4 wheels off the ground and upon landing, the left rear strutjust gave in, couldnt support the weight(the wheel was two inches inside the rear fender. only the one strut gave in, can i change just that one strut? or do both rear struts have to be changed at the same time?

I know its the strut that busted in the inside cuz it has settled back to its previous position upon time as the spring forced it back to it. my guess is the seal(or some sealing compnent inside the strut) broke under pressure and the fluid on the bottom part of the strut is now all over in the insides.seems like the only thing that could explain it as nothing is broken or loose.
