Default suspension removal ?

I have a 2000 honda civic ex and i am trying to lower it using a coilover kit.....i can get the whole stock assemble out of the casr but the strut mounting plate at the top that bolts onto the strut tower how do i get the center bolt loose....i try to turn the nut with a wrench and the strut spinns in the middle...i have the spring compressors on i just ca't break the center nut loose....any one ever encountered this or know what to do......do i need an impact or is there a way to get it to stop spinning....anyone know of any sites that carry the mount plate itself that would also be very helpful thank you very much in advance

Use wisegrips on the top of it, or look closer, it should have a hole that would accept an allen key on top of it...at least my stock stuff had it

are you going to reuse the shock? if so, be very careful with the visegrips, if you scar the rod, it is really bad for them. if you have replacment shocks, just clamp it on the thin metal part, not the rubber boot, and wrench away.

do you have a pick n pul type junkyard around you? try them, but get a warranty on the shocks if you can.
