Default Tire Brand preference

Heya everyone,
This is my first time here. I did a search but didn't find anything that really asnwered my questions about tires.
I'm wondering, among you guys, what is your preference on tire brands?
I have a '07 Civic (4 door) and I'm in need of new tires, but Costco charges $148 + state fee + $15 tire installation for new tires (Michellin)
I'm wondering which is your personal favorite brand and how much you usually pay for your tires.
Thanks!

EDIT: I do apologize in advance if this is a visited topic and categorized as "things we hate to see posted"
EDIT2: I forgot to mention, the stock tires i have are P205/55R16. dunno if that will help any but just to give a reference point.

I've been a fan of Kumho tires for awhile. Decent performance but also affordable. I got mine for $65 apiece through a local hookup.

so far i've used general altimax hp and bridgestone potenza re960. i also like this place for tires http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/hom...ANINT|pc|95818 they will have them installed and usually have pretty competitive pricing as well

the altimax are a little cheaper and a little harder to find. I would probably go with the potenzas just because they are more readily available and easier to find. also check out tirerack.com they have tire reviews and also reviews by customers

wow another great site. I'm leaning towards the michellin tires. from the first site you gave me, I was looking at the michellin destiny
http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/fin...5&rd=16&cs=205
seem to be very impressive. One of their reviews said that they got 80k miles out of it. I thought it was really awesome.
I'm also looking at the Michellin (again, I know, but it seems to have such great reviews)
the HydroEdge w/ Green X
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....n&autoModClar=
or the Energy Saver A/S
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....n&autoModClar=

anyways, I wonder if I should go with the one from the discount tire site or something. (the discount tire site does also give a $60 discount as well) what do you think?

go with whichever gets you the best pricing. for the discount tires site you can add the tires into the cart and it will get you the price to install them as well. they have stores everywhere.

The tires you linked are fine but not the best. I've dealt with those tires and personally don't like them. They last a long time which is great but are pretty bad in any weather conditions and are over priced. They are popular tires from the factory, dealership, and tire shops, all reasons why they are priced high.

For the category tires you're looking in, I'd suggest the Kumho ASX. They will last almost as long, perform much better and cost much less.

wow, the one you recommended also seems so nice, but it's not the same spec as the wheels I have.
I am a complete newbie at cars so I know nothing about what's good or bad in almost all aspects of the car. Everyone I talk to in person are all telling me to go for Michellin tires, but I also know that they usually base their opinions on their personal experience and haven't used other brands. right now, i'm thinking of biting the bullet and going for the the Michellin Primacy MXV4 because I do lack knowledge on these cars and as much as I want to try the other stuff, I have a bad track record of new stuff doing bad things to me.
Next time I will keep your suggestions in mind though since I should be in a more stable position.
Thank you guys for spending the time to educate me about tires! I really appreciate it

Take a look at this article:

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...mparison_tests

In addition to those tested that were top-rated, I can personally recommend Continental Extreme Contact tires.
