Default RE: Tire/rim trade/worth question

Thanks for the info! That helps a lot. I know this guy who says he found me stock civic rims with z rating tires on them. He thinks the tires are either 14" or 15"... and is going to get back to me on the exact brand and size. He is proposing a trade for my current rims and tires for the ones he found plus an extra $100-$200.

I did some research on Z rating tires and I found that they don't always last as long as say an H rating tire because it's made of a softer rubber. Is this true?

I don't exactly plan on driving any fast than 100mph... in fact I never go over 90 in most cases. (I'm kind of a chicken....) so I don't think I really NEED a Z rating tire.... that is unless of course it's going to last me longer....

Any insight anyone?

Also- I notice that this post has 40 hits- but only 9 replies... no one has any advice on this subject huh? Maybe I should post it as a different question? Or possibly someone knows of a different forum that might be more helpful to me?

Thanks everyone!

This should probably be posted in the Suspension/Brakes/Tires/Wheels forum. Maybe a moderator will move it.

The stock wheels he found... are they alloys, or steelies with hubcaps? How much tread is left on the tires?

ORIGINAL: New Civic Owner

She said she paid a total of $2600 for the tires and the rims
Rims de-value faster then anything on a car....but that package sold off the car should be worth at least ~$700 bucks. The rims the "racing" guy wants to give you. The new EX alloy rims go for ~$ 600 on Ebay. Thats new under 100 miles. Used drops them to $450. If they are the steelies with hubcaps maybe $200 for the fresh tires. Ask the guy for rims plus $300, and he has to swap them for you.
If not check the local Junk yards for a good set of steel 14" or alloys and get new tires. Sell the 18's to some other "racer" for the full amount. Either way you'll be ahead.
Welcome and stick around.
