I bought this 03 Civic ex 1.7L with a 5 speed manual with the fifth gear grinding. I replaced the synchronizer, sleeve and spring for 5th it’s done good for about a year. Driving to work the other morning and bam it jumps out of gear in 5th. Drove it home after work having to hold a little pressure to hold it in gear. So I suspect the spring clip broke causing my issue. Was think of just replacing the trans with another but trying to find a 01 to 05 5 speed (SLW) is a needle in a hay stack. My question is will any other 5 speed work? Any suggestions?

 

Didn't replace the I put and output shaft bearings? On an 03 I can't advise on Interchangeability, never owned that gen.

 

No I didn’t reply and of the bearing they felt good with no visible damage.
