Default Auto transmission slips only when hot

My 97 Civic's automatic transmission slips only when hot. The transmission behaves normally with no hard shifting when I start my drive. Then 10-15 minutes into the ride the shifting feels hard and noticeable. Once this happens the tranny will slowly get worse. The very next time I stop, the transmission will slip when I start moving again. The engine will rev high and pick up speed very slowly, then it engages hard into second gear. If I instead put the (automatic) transmission in low (2) gear the vehicle accelarates much better from a stop. When I turn the car off and let it cool or at least wait some time it behaves smoothly and then at about 10-15 minutes it starts misbehaving again as described above. Yesterday the "check Engine" light came on. I have changed transmission fluid and very lttle change was noticed. Suggestions? Help!

Tranny could be shot. Put some LUCAS trans fixer in it..........it will help.

Sounds like your torque converter is on the way out...

Not to hijack your thread, but my tranny is doing almost the same thing. Its a 95 auto. (The following is done in my driveway) I can start it up fine and shift through all of the gears fine but after about 2 or 3 minutes I start hearing some whining noise coming from the engine/transmission, (I cant tell which) and I get nothing out of any gear. I could have it in any gear including reverse and it feels like it is in neutral or park. The RPM's go up but the car dont move!?!?!?!?!? I shut it off, and wait about 5 minutes and the car will repeat the above symptoms almost exactly. Its like when the engine (or tranny) warms up, it stops working. Please keep up the sugestions.
Thanks

Kevin

Sounds like the torque converter as well, but yours sounds like it's further along.

I just got off the phone with a tranny shop here in my area and this is what he said. I have a filter that is clogged. It is also not possible to change out this filter. The tranny needs to be taken out and opened to find out the extent of the damage. My question is this: Is this correct that the filter can not be changed? If it can, how is it done? If it cant, has anyone here replaced an automatic tranny and how hard is it? Thanks again
