Changing Clutch and Possibly Flywheel
Hey guys, my car has about 117k on it, and the previous owner wore the clutch pretty good, so I am going to be replacing the clutch very soon. I am thinking probably the Exedy OE clutch as I have seen good reviews on here about it. Now I did some research on the Chromoly F1 flywheel that some come with that weighs 9.75 lbs. I have seen mixed reviews, none really particular to THIS flywheel. But i have seen people say that a lighter flywheel than stock can shorten the life of the engine and such. Would THIS be a good flywheel for this clutch, being that its not aluminum and over 8 lbs? Any input on this would be greatly appreciated!

I thought lighter flywheels just allow for faster acceleration since it it's lighter. When I do the b16 swap I was looking at the ACT lightweight flywheel and heavy duty street clutch.
yeah that was the impression i was under as well. i cant find the thread now, but basically it was mentioned that because the flywheel is lighter, it lowers the inertia which causes more strain on the engine, inevitbaly leading to shortened engine life. like i said, im not sure if that really adds up, especially to the flywheel and clutch im looking at, so i just want to see what other people think. more than likely i am going to go with this set, but well see what others say.
I heard decent things for exedy, but I don't know about the flywheel. I'm still trying to figure out how a lighter flywheel=more strain on the engine. You'd think it would make things a lot easier on the engine. Only thing I could think of slightly higher idle speeds.
I heard if you do a lightned flywheel you gota get a light weight crank pulley and vice versa. Not really too sure thou. My freind has a STI and has both done with no problems.
yeah **** it im goin with the exedy clutch and f1 flywheel. im like 99% sure that whoever said that it puts more strain on the engine is full of **** and should be immediately castrated.
