Will any D16 transmission work with any D16 engine (I'm only talking about manual cars). I found a guy on craiglist and he' says he's not sure exactly which engine its from but its a D16 manual hydro tranny. I have a 99 EX with D16Y8 and I need a new one cause my syncro is wearing out on my 3rd gear.

 

hydro d-series transmissions from 92-00 are interchangable.

 

One of my friends said something about not to get a engine from a DX because it has longer gears and stuff and I would fall out of vtec.

 

the dx engine isnt even vtec.im assuming your speaking of the transmission though. and yes you would fall out of vtec. but only by a few hundred rpms. also acceleration differences would be very noticable between an ex and dx transmission

 

How can I tell which transmission is which. The guy I found it from says he doesn't know he just knows its D series. Is there a number on the tranny?

 

Anyone? Is there a number stamped in that will tell me which engine it went with?

 

yes there is a number on the transmission that will either be s20(92-95) ex's/si/s or s40(96-00) ex's i beleive

 

my lx tranny was an S40....
