desperately need help/advice
Hello, everyone
I am an international student (so not good in English) and I know little about car. I need some advice for my 2004 Civic LX. I purchased the car in Dec 07 as a pre-owned with 36k miles, now it has 50k miles and no problems for driving, no strange sound. I changed engine oil every 3k miles.
Last Monday the Malfunction Indicator Lamp came out while driving, I checked the Manual and realized maybe it was because I did not tighten the fuel fill cap enough the Sunday before. So I immediately tighten the cap. After that I went to Midas and Honda dealer to check the lamp problem, in both places I was told there are OBD code P0717 (input shaft speed sensor no signal) and P0730 (incorrect gear ratio). They tell me that I need to have the transmission replaced and the cost will be 2200/3600.
Definitely I cannot afford that money, feel very bad. I try to learn about the transmission through internet, I think this is the best board I can ask for advice.
Thanks for read this long thing, any advice will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Oh, thank you! I will do like you suggested. So the speed sensor is out of the transmission, right? Still I don't think a neophyte like me can do it by myself, but I will check with someone garage about that. Thanks again.
