Default AT Downshift: Mashing the Gas

Will laying the gas pedal to the floor to get the transmission to down shift a gear or two damage anything? I know transmissions are suppose to do this and it actually says to do it in the manual, but does doing it often cause any damage? I have a '98 Civic DX and I love doing this because it makes my car sound so good (AEM SRI/Flowmaster).

Doing this will not harm anything.

It's how they're designed. You let off the gas for a bit then press a little harder than you were, and it automatically downshifts.

Alright, that's what I kind of figured. I read some things that said doing this often isn't good for the transmission/engine. I'll be gunning it now

well after a period of time your transmissions bad will stretch and eventuallty start taking longer to shift to the next gear.

what would you describe a period of time as 94chb? because i like to do this to , like the sound it gives me haha,

and how bad do you think it is if you shift your auto manually, such as d4, 2, d3 and back to d4?? not so good huh?

sorry for thread jacking

I always used to manually shift my auto (not with this car, the one I had before it) but I heard bad things about doing that too. Mashing on my Civic and hearing the AEM/Flowmaster is just amazing to me.

automatics in civics were only designed to just cruise,
my point is dropping down a gear and "Getting on it" is like dumping the clutch on a manual trans, after awhile the clutch wears out and you have to replace it, but for auto's you cant just go out and replace "the clutch" you either have to take it to a shop and have it rebuilt or buy another one. and the sound you hear is valve lash

It'll be fine. Of course it causes wear... but so does just driving the car at all.

I believe shifting into D3 is fine, but to shift into 1 or 2 you should make a complete stop first and it's not meant to be shifted into or out of while driving. 1 and 2 are for steep hills and towing.
