gear oil?

has anyone put 10w40 in there manual transmission?

not me, but for a while had a grinding problem when i shifted into 4th gear. did some research and found a product call bg syncroshift. i put that in my man-trans and drove over 20k and still not grinding in any gear. I highly recommened that product (B G Syncroshift). It will run you about 35-40 bucks for the 3 QT's you need.

I have 5w-30 castrol syntec in there....but only because I have a crapload of that. Manual recommends 10w-40 so I guess that's what you should use

i wasn't specific 10w40 motor oil? i know that is the specified weight from the factory but will i mess up something using motor oil instead of gear oil?

Actually, Honda manual trannies have always used 10w-40 MOTOR oil, NOT gear oil (at least as far as 6th gen; not sure about 7th).

that's what i thought when i did the swap on the 94 but i recently changed it on the 96 and it smelled like gear oil i just replaced it with motor oil. and kept it rolling.

Honda & other Japanese car manufacturer uses 10W-30 or 10W-40 engine oil as a transmission fluid for all their FWD car as far as I know.
