Default Gear Ratios

If i change the gear ratios on my 96 EK Civic (D16Y9/7), how would that help?
Someone told me my quarter mile would be better and top end would still be the same. I was under the impression that its a give and take. Can anyone give me some advice

change out to the ex transmission......acceleration will be noticably better and as far as top speed, you would have a hard time topping out either tranny with the y7 engine. but i mean whos trying to run at 140mph+ anyways?

D series transmissions and B series transmissions are not interchangable. If you want to drag race (specifically) you are going to want to run higher gear ratios as they will give you more torque. This will however reduce the top speed your car can reach. You could have the trans taken apart and change the gears, but this is expensive and i dunno who sells gear sets for civics. I would go for a trans that is already geared lowered.
