Hard to shift - 99 civic lx automatic
Hi ,
I am new to the forum. My 99 civic has 100k miles and it has developed a gear shifting problem.
Most of the time it is hard to move the gear shifter from Drive to Park. It gets stuck right before the Park position (in the Reverse position). And of course I have the button pressed in all the time.
Pulling it from Park to Drive, I have the same problem.
I have an appointment at the dealer tomorrow and based on past experience, I expect this to cost a lot of money.
Is this a simple part that goes bad or is this a major component failure?
Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Sirisha

I did a more precise check of the situation and this is what it feels like:
a. the shifter 'sticks' or rubs in the spot right between Park and reverse
b. it seems to rub in both directions
Does anybody know if this is Shifter mechanism or linkage or transmission itself.
Thanks!

u have noticed this same problem on my car, i don't know what it is, but i am planning on doing a tranny swap in the next 6 months or so, so i am not really worried about it
