sounds like maybe a throwout bearing. does it only go away if you press the pedal all the way down, or does it go away with just a little pressure?

im having the same problem, exactly..more load louder it gets? kinda sounds like a kid with cards in his spokes? but deeper? i've tried changing fluid also, and i keep checking to b certain its full ( cuz its sounds dry), i was wondering if somehow the starter might be not pulling back far enough, or something is a different pitch.. is this the car you just did the 4 to 5 speed? thats what i have done also. i used a crx '91 in my '88 hatch. if we both have same symptoms from the same upgrade we have overlooked something obvious.. did you install new clutch at same time? i did. new throw out bearing also. if i find anything i'll let you know.. please do same.. i want that chatter gone
