Default help...reverse problems...

Hi all...i'm new to the forum and new to civics. i just picked up a 91 lx sedan with an auto trans. yeah yeah i know auto, but it's my commuter and my wife refuses to drive stick. besides i've got a 5-speed that i drive when i'm not commuting. anyway...i've got a problem with reverse.

what would cause my auto tranny to not let me reverse? i put the shifter in reverse and it doesn't do anything but move the tach up a tad. the car doesn't move (like it normally does when you put it in reverse or any gear for that matter). this has happened to me 2 times already and both times were in the morning after the car has sit overnight.

any help is truly appreciated and i look forward to being a member of the forum.

i would check the basics like tranny fluid level, and if it hasnt been changed recently, replace the oil, i would also check the cable tension, and possably the electrical connections to the tranny. because you said it happened when it is cold i would tend to think oil problems.
