1st and Reverse gear problems
i own a 1993 honda civic lx. i bought for 1500 and it came with 165,000 miles. its a beater car, enough for me to save up for a newer car next year. anyways, say that i'm in traffic and sometimes when i'm slowing down when i hit 20 MPH or lower, i put it in neutral, and let it roll. as i'm rolling and braking lightly at the same time, and as traffic starts to move again as i'm rolling at 3 MPH. i try to put it into 1st, but sometimes it just won't go in. it may grind sometimes when i try to put it back into 1st. sometimes to the point where i have to put it into 2nd and skip first.
now the the reverse problem. same thing, it sometimes won't go into R gear. and when it finally does get into R gear it makes a grinding sound for a second and then i can finally reverse out of a driveway, parking spot, etc. . and the other times i would put the gear back into neutral, let off the clutch, clutch back in and it goes back in R gear smoothly.
then at times, both gears just work fine.
thoughts?
