Hoping to learn more about Civic transmissions
Since I've joined this forum, I've learn a S*** load of stuff about my car and about Civics in general, but I haven't really learned much about trannys.... I've been looking around the site for more details, but I have't found all my answers yet. So I'm hoping that someone can answer them for me....
Ok.... I have a 96 Si/Ex with a 5 speed:
1. Is this cable or hydrolic?
2. Does it have a model number like the motors do?
3. What years/models had cable/hydro trannys?
4. When did they change from one to the other?
5. What's the advantage of one over the other?
6. What does LSD mean, and why do people want it?
Thanks for the help.

1. hydraulic
2. they all have numbers...I don't know which codei s yours because i need to know for sure whether ir's an ex or an si (D seried engine or B series)
4. 92 and up civics have hydro trannys.
5. cable trannys are presumed to have a better "feel" of the car...I still love my hydro...
6. LSD = limited slip differential....stock you have an open differential which transfers power in the way of least resistance...say if on of your wheels is on ice the diff will transfer all of the power to that wheel....a limited slip will not allow all of the power to go through the wheel with the least resistance....there are two different types of LSD's so I won't discuss it in depths.
