Input Shaft Bearing??
Ok, I was reading the FAQ about the "dull grinding/sliding noise" that you hear when the Input Shaft Bearing is going bad. I have this EXACT problem, it started about 4 months ago when I could just barely hear it in 1st gear. Now it is audible in 1st, and 2nd gear much louder than when it started (EX: i can hear it really good if someone is driving next to me with my windows down). From experience does anybody know how much time i have on the clock??? How much would it run me to get ALL the bearings replaced??? Thanks
Well the only time I can really hear the noise is when there is a load on the transmission. If I left off the throttle while in gear it goes away. But when I take off in 1st it doesnt start till around 4-5 mph.
Sorry you had to wait so long for an answer. Just stumbled across this thread. I have a 99DX and I believe they are the same trans despite the generation gap. I had an ISB problem because the car made noise in gear after 120K miles. I actually swapped my Y7 tranny for a Y8 with way lower mileage. I paid $1200 for the trans and labor. Probably not what you wanted to hear. It was expensive, but now the car is nice & quiet. I did notice better pickup as well. Naturally, if you do it yourself you will save plenty of cash. But on a difficulty scale of 1-10 I've read that replacing the ISB is about an 8. Don't try unless you have experience. Peace.
