Default Input shaft is going..whats my best option?

I took it into the Dealer about 4 months ago and they siad it was my input shaft was shot. The person who was dealing with me said that its fine to drive on it, is that true? It would Cost me 900 bucks to get fixed. Is there a cheaper way? Such as finding a Transmition from a junk yard and having them put it in?
