LS or GSR Tranny?
I am currently building a B18A which I plan on turboing. I was wondering would it be better to have a LS or GSR trannsmission. I need to know the pros and cons of either tranny, and which has longer gears. Thanks for the help
gsr tranny is stronger and has numerically higher (lower ratio, i.e. closer geared) gear ratios. for turbo, the ratios in the LS are a little better since they allow you to use the mid-range torque from the turbo. the real problem you are going to run into is traction, so even though it has the shortest gears of all, if you can get a type r transmission, it comes with an LSD, which will make you faster than gearing changes.
I really dont want to dish out the money right now for a type r tranny, because I have the LS and GSR trannys available for only $150. So which would you recommend between the two?
Umm.. okay.. but the D series trannys are not that strong... i blow up the DIF in my D15B7.. i mean the D16 would be better but no where near as good as a B series.. and the last fact.. turboed d series does not hold its own against a b series turbo.. unless of course you built up the D16 and can boost 15 to 20 psi but then again its like what marty said..
