Ouch
So I spend about 3 hours washing mymsp yesterday drive into town to cruise around for a little while. As I pull away from a red light driving normal I go to shift into second and it grinds terribly wont go into third and asI try to pick up speed to get to the side of the road I get nothing except horrible noises. So I pull into the closest parking lot and think to myself that I just blew my LSD. I call mazda and ask them about the warranty because I can't afford to buy a new diff. The idiot on the phone says that 2003 proteges only come with a 3 yr 30000 mile warranty whichI know is untrue. So I get picked up and ride to the dealership and talk to the service manager who is a genuine toolbag. He asks me what i think is wrong and when I tell him I believe it is the differential he asks if my car is rwd. Well my car is under warranty but the local dealership is not an authorized mazdaspeed dealer so I have to pay to get it towed 40 miles to the nearest mazdaspeed dealer. Today the mazdaspeed tech calls and says that he believes it is not the differential but instead the clutch which is not covered under warranty. The teardown cost for them to figure out what is wrong is $495 which will not be covered under warranty if it is the clutch. Everyone that I have talked to other than the dealership thinks it is the diff based on what has happened. I just hope that it is the diff so that I dont have to pay for the dealer to do work I could do myself.
