Default Please I need help with transmission......

Hello everyone......
I'd like to know (apart from the obvious brand new one) what is better to have a transmission rebuild or get a used one? Which one is cheaper?
Also, I'm going to have my trans replaced eventually sooner then later (until I cannot take the grinding noise anymore) and I live in San Francisco can anyone refer me to a shop around here in the Bay Area that can do it for reasonable $$$?
I got quoted around $1300 for a second hand one...
Thanks in advance.....

Well, a used one will be cheaper, but you dont know how much more it can take. A rebuilt one is cheaper than the new one, and you know thats its ready to go. So if it means that much to you, get a rebuilt one.

I would get a rebuilt tranny before a used tranny. With a used tranny, you never know what you're getting.........could last a lifetime, or could last a month, you never know.
A rebuilt tranny will run you more cash, but the odds are more in your favor with the rebuilt than a used tranny.
I wouldn't go with a new tranny unless the car was a 2004 or newer.
