Default problem adding manual transmission fluid

I followed the Haynes to check and add some oil to my manual transmission, but the hole that was used to check/fill is blocked. Maybe I took the wrong plug off, but I couldn't fit any kind of tube into there, so I filled my oil up through the drain plug until it flowed out of the check/fill hole..basically did it the oppositte way, but I had no other choice, because the check/fill plug was blocked by some metal thing that I could actually turn a little bit...there was basically no hole. Anyone have any idea what I"m talking about? This was my first time doing any kind of significant maintanance on a car and I was pretty stumped.

yeah, i took out the bottom one to drain, and I took out the top one to fill it, but when i went to put my flexible tube in, the opening was blocked by stuff. Am I suppoed to thread a really really tiny tube in there or something to fill it?
