Default Short Shifters. Functinal?

Are there any functional advantages to having a short shifter? Or is it just a preference/aesthetic type thing?

preference imo........i prefer not to have a shorter throw below the pivot ball but above it. i like to cut stock shifters down about 2"s. its a smoother feel for me this way. actual short shifters are way to clunky feeling imo.

short throw shifters may not feel all that smooth but if u plan on racing then it'll be a real nice addition. stock, when racing u'll be waisting a good amount of time when shifting since the throw is so long. short throw shifters are made to shorten the throw up to 40-50% which u really can feel and is nice for quick shifts while racing.

That's precisely what I was wondering. I'll have to give one a try.
