I don't know about you guys, but I might feel better in the morning going to work if the tranny in the car is rebuilt by myself. I mean it could be just me being from ex-USSR where everybody did their own work, but I really love hands on work and learning how-to do mechanical stuff on my car. I say buy a used tranny, get nice gearing if you can and a rebuild kit(don't know if gears are included in there) and do it while your old tranny is alive...and after that you will have a much more reliable tranny than a used one that could have been someone's first standard car...

Well parsko, you can't do any worse than my dealer did on my 2002 with manual tranny. 35,700 miles on it and Monday I will be taking it in for the 3rd time. First time they overhauled most of it, Second time they told me nothing was wrong - even though it crunchs and grinds going into gear. I think they are trying to delay this repair about 301 miles! Moral of the story - practice powershifting on someone elses car!

So,

I decided to crack her open. Got it split, and tried to pull it apart, but it would only separate about 1/2". Seems like it is getting caught up on something of which I cannot identify. Anyone have any insight as to what it might be? Is there a trick to get this thing apart?
