Default transmission swap or rebuild

Hi, I have 2001 Honda Civic LX, 59k miles. Never had any problems until last weekend. I was driving and the car started slowing down. I had to stop and couldn't drive any more. It looked like the engine was working fine but I still couldn't move. And I have hadthis weird noise when I started the car for a while. I was told, it isthetransmission and I need to swap or rebuild it. I have no idea what is better. Thanks for any suggestions.

Im guessing its an automatic? Typical auto tranny rebuild is 1400$ or so. You should be able to get a d series tranny for like 250 on ebay, then just pay labor to get it installed. Say they RAPE you and charge like $700 for labor........Thats still $950, compared to 1400$ or more.....depending on the shop.

trans swaps are easy if you have a hoist. you can pull the motor out and do it outside the car or if your good you can do it inside the car
