I put this question in the Engine and internal section, but didn't get many hits, and no responses. Sorry for double posting, but maybe more people will see it here.
I have an 86 CRX Si and the motor and trans are very tired (216K, grinding shifts, and some blue smoke). So I saw a 90 civic wagon with a good motor and busted up body for $300.
Question: Can I swap the D15B2 from the 90 into my 86 in place of the EW4? What problems might I encounter, like motor mounts lining up, etc. Is the D15B2 an OK motor for this swap? It's the same size and similar numbers, but I really like the speed and 40MPG I get currently with the EW4. Will the CRX still perform OK with the D15? Thanks in advance.

It most liklely wont just drop in. Youll need new motor mounts and such. Personally id drop a B16 into that CRX.

Thanks for the response. Ya, idealy it would get a B16, but I don't have easy cheap access to one of those. Just trying to decide if it is worth the time, since I have a cheap motor available to me.

I'd try to put her in there. You'll probably only have mounting issues considering you're gonna have all the wiring ecu, intake etc. It probably won't cost you much to swap it in, and you'll still have a reliable gas meiser. I think you'll still get the milage with the d15b2 or better. Mine smokes like a bitch but still runs perfect so i've decided to leave it in till it blows up which might be never. If the motor in your crx still runs ok just get the other car and get it all torn apart and find all the mounts you need and take your time doing it. Make sure you've got a back up car if everything doesn't go as planned. Good luck with it!
