I noticed my temp gauge is not working. And I dont think the radiator fans are kicking on. Where does the temp hook up on the block? And is there a way to test the fans?

 

Usually when the gauge doesn't go up, it is because the engine is not reaching proper operating temperature because the thermostat is stuck open.

The gauge sender is screwed into the head under the distributor toward the back of the engine. It has a single wire. If you unplug the wire and ground it, the gauge should go all the way up to hot when you turn the key on. Resistance of the sender with the engine at normal operating temperature should be on the order of 100 ohms.

 

K, grounded the wire and turned on the key. Temp guage shot up to H. Now I take it, my thermostate is bad. Motor is cool. And I can grab the hose and squeeze it with ease. I take it that it is open "the therostate". Which is behind the distributor? I would guess there should be pressure there if it was closed.
