Default strange preignition ping

My 96 civic occasionally will knock like crazy when accerating but just on one cylinder for a minute or two, then it seems to stop and run fine. Been doing this for several tank fulls of different fuel. I've retarded the timing to see if that would affect it but it still does it no matter. All plugs look good. Any suggestions? Thanks, Corey

Are you using the correct NGK spark plug for your engine?

Is the engine possibly running either hot or lean?

Does your engine have a knock sensor? Is the CEL ON?

Have you tried a Seafoam engine treatment (https://www.hondacivicforum.com/foru...ad.php?t=14612) to remove carbon deposits?

See the link below for detailed information on how to reduce detonation problems:

Follow up question from Corey:
When starting cold my idle really takes off. No tach but my guess is 2500 -3000 rpm. It will eventually come down to a normal idle speed after about 1 or 2 miles city. Hell, it's not even that cold yet here in Mich. I've read a lot of the post regarding the same. I've had the IACV off and cleaned the valve and chamber. The rubber o ring isn't leaking. Looks like coolant is present through it. My throttle body has been cleaned. I've sprayed carb cleaned everwhere and haven't found any leaks at all. I have the air bypass screw all the way in however right now to get it to idle down. Might you have a few suggestion for me to try next?
1) Check whether the throttle cable is adjusted too tight or is binding.

2) When the engine is cold, check whether the coolant level in the radiator is low. Also consider bleeding the cooling system of trapped air.
