What would anyone recommend that i pull off the vents, plastic door handles, etc. and paint them with duplicolor or something, or just buy a dash kit off E-bay. Does the paint hold-up over time?

i painted the back panels of my hatchback and it began to peal aswell i used some cheap paint from pepboys though...i heard that if you put a couple coats of clear on it, it will be fine....i may do mine over...you may be ok if you use a good paint and put a couple coats of clear on it

when my bro used to have my car, he painted all the little pieces red, now that i have the car i was repainting them red about every six months to keep them looking decent, and that was with expensive model paint. finally i just painted them flat black and replaced whichever ones i could from picknpull, im so glad i did, it looks so much cleaner all black again.

I tryed to do red trim on my civic. Did the door switches, vents, all that. But I didn't really like it in the end. Because it dosnt take long for something to chip, or for you to mess up a piece. Then you have redo it every few months. I used good stuff too. But I do have a friend with a blue SI who did his vents in car paint, the same paint code as the civic. And it still looks good a few years later. But of course car paint aint cheap lol.

I personly am just going to go to this site and get new OEM piecs. They are cheap. And Id recomend them fror any orginal parts anyone might need.

So id say get the dash kit, Id think it would last longer.

what year of civic do you have and what model also, what color. Im going to be selling al my interior dash pieces, center console, vents, etc. I had them all painted professionally at a body shop(so they dont peel at all!) PLUS i bought a carbon fiber overlay kit and installed it on pieces too. It looks TIGHT! But, Im going to go back to stock pieces. SO these are all for sale. Call me or email me! albinowhat@hotmail.com 541-619-7952

ASAP!!!!! Thanks! -Adam

if you use good paint, and REMOVE ALL THE ARMOUR ALL and **** your paint won't peel. period. clean the dash, rubbing alcohol will work fine, give it a light sanding with 600 Grit paper and prime it. I did the dash on my old car and it lasted 10 years without any degradation, and I live in northern ontario where it gets down to like -40... so if it was gonna peel... oh yeah and don't forget to clear coat it

I'd go with the dash kit man, you will be repainting all the time, this will cost money, but in the long run it will save you some hassle...

Do you have pics of the dash kit your looking at?

i dont know if u guys know this but eclipse door handles break off easily and they r made out of plastic so i had to get new ones and the new ones came black so i told my friends dad if he could paint it and he said yeah but he said get all the paint and stuff the main part is that he told me to get this stuff called bulldog adhensive so the paint could stick on too the plastic it cost about 15 bucks but my door handles came out pretty good and yeah there plastic no chipping or nothing

if you do it right, it will look sweet. look at mossy's ride. his is tight. i used duplicolor on everything on my ride. it matched perfectly. it's the only spray paint that did. i did my eyelids with it and you would swear they came from the dealer. just remember to clean and sand and you'll be fine. mine has lasted about 3 years with no problems at all. good luck and keep us posted!

are you saying that mossy's ride is ricey? i think that his **** is tight! it takes along ass time to do that. it's more personal when you do **** yourself. what's that old saying? real cars are built, not bought. that is very true. any wiener could buy a trim kit, but not everyone could take the time to do something custom and make it look nice. but i guess that's what makes it your opinion.

ive been there bro. Im not mocking Mossys ride 1 bit. I had an 94 Sentra with an SR20 swapped in it, and i painted the interior too. I did it right too.......sanded, primered, painted, clearcoated and yadda ya......but im just sayin i personally think that if mossy were to have replaced all the pieces he painted with actual aluminum pieces it would look 10x better. Besides i GUARENTEE if u paint ur dash or anything in ur car youll be sitting there 1 day and think to urself "Damn i dont like this nemore"............but this is just my opnion.............The red Mossy did looks good man......its glossy and looks good........let that car sit in the 90 degree sun for a day and the paints going to start getting sticky and ****.........it needs to be re done every so often because paint fades.........a dash kit wont need to be re done....just clean it and ur set........believe me man Ive personally been down this path before and id NEVER paint a dash a bold color like red ever again...............i guess im just getting old or something but those bright colors dont do it for me anymore.

and for the record i think mossy did an admirable job on his painting........even thou its not my taste it does seem he did it rite....

i feel ya on that. my car is the dark red/maroon color. i used the duplicolor exact match for everything on mine. the only thing i would change is the fact the i only used 1 color. i think i'm going to use another color for a 2 tone for the interior. you can only look at one color for so long. i took me and my brother in law 3 days to get all the painting and vinyl dye done. don't get me wrong, i love the way it turned out, but i should have had another color to go along with it. i think i'll use black or silver for the counter. any ideas for a second tone color with the dark red?

using a silver that will give a brushed alum look would be sweet.

i've painted mine decided not to go with the dash kit a couple buddies of mine had dash kits they kept peeling off i painted mine never really had any problems just put a couple coats of clear on it and it should turn out nice but give plenty of time for drying after every coat of paint or clear but it usually turns out really nice if you take your time

i just got done painting my eyelids for the headlights today. came out good. need some more clear though. so when you decide to paint your interior or anything for that matter, make SURE you put enough clear on there. it will look really dull and you will be pissed like me. and duplicolor makes the best freakin paint in the world(in a spray can that is). i wish i could get a new digital camera to post some pics. maybe sometime. good luck with the painting and let us know how it turns out.

pcupo, thanks for giving me some credit. if i could find an actual brushed aluminum trim kit that covered the panels ENTIRELY instead of lame ass vinyl stickers that only covered up sections, i'd do it. also the biggest fact i considered was that, well, i'm 17. it was $30 to paint my interior vs. $250 for a dash kit that would look good
