when my bro used to have my car, he painted all the little pieces red, now that i have the car i was repainting them red about every six months to keep them looking decent, and that was with expensive model paint. finally i just painted them flat black and replaced whichever ones i could from picknpull, im so glad i did, it looks so much cleaner all black again.

I tryed to do red trim on my civic. Did the door switches, vents, all that. But I didn't really like it in the end. Because it dosnt take long for something to chip, or for you to mess up a piece. Then you have redo it every few months. I used good stuff too. But I do have a friend with a blue SI who did his vents in car paint, the same paint code as the civic. And it still looks good a few years later. But of course car paint aint cheap lol.
I personly am just going to go to this site and get new OEM piecs. They are cheap. And Id recomend them fror any orginal parts anyone might need.

So id say get the dash kit, Id think it would last longer.

what year of civic do you have and what model also, what color. Im going to be selling al my interior dash pieces, center console, vents, etc. I had them all painted professionally at a body shop(so they dont peel at all!) PLUS i bought a carbon fiber overlay kit and installed it on pieces too. It looks TIGHT! But, Im going to go back to stock pieces. SO these are all for sale. if you use good paint, and REMOVE ALL THE ARMOUR ALL and **** your paint won't peel. period. clean the dash, rubbing alcohol will work fine, give it a light sanding with 600 Grit paper and prime it. I did the dash on my old car and it lasted 10 years without any degradation, and I live in northern ontario where it gets down to like -40... so if it was gonna peel... oh yeah and don't forget to clear coat it
