RE: help compression test
you need to hold the gas in all the way and try and start it for a 3-5 seconds. im trying to think what mine read but i think it was 210, but mine is a japanese b16 and those read a little high. just as long as every cylindar is within 5 psi of each other then you will be fine.

so i take one of the spark plugs out screw the tester in the whole hold the gas down and crank it over will it read 210 on the first turn or will i have to do it more than onec.and if one cylinder read lower than the other what would be the problem.becasue the motor starts and runs good it dosent smoke or anything even if u rev at high rpms.but it backfires and i have heard that the reason it backfires could be because the pistion ring is that true and thanks for all your help man

RE: help compression test
do u guys know where the cyp sensor is on the b16a i think thats what it is. its for number one piston at tdc i think its code 8 idk but thats what my ecu is throwin and my mechanic told me my number one pistion wasent as hot as the other which i have no idea what that means but could that be why and could that make it backfire he told me it drives good and pulls pretty good but it backfires and pops but he said it probly because of bad gas and i have the cheap stuff in it the 89 would it run alott better with the 91 and do u thinlk the reason why its backfiring is because of the gas thabks for your opinions

okay, first of all, please try and use punctuation and sentence structure. That last message doesn't make any sense.
Follow the DIY i posted, then post your results here. All cylinders should be within 10% of each other.

RE: help compression test
The CYP sensor is inside the distributor. It is used to synchronize the sequence of the fuel injectors to the engine. Perhaps you have a mismatched distributor / ECU / engine combination.
Check your cam timing and spark timing also as being out of time can cause "popping" and backfiring.
