Do you work as an accountant? You fail to realize that every important thing in life cannot be quantified in terms of dollars and cents. For example, what value does your oversimplified equation place on spending time with your family or engaging in your favorite hobby or pastime? If I don't replace my relatively inexpensive water pump, then I may have to miss an important event on which I place great value. Replacing my water pump when I choose won't cause me to miss anything important because I choose when to do it. Put that into your calculator.

I can't speak for everyone else (okay, I can speak for Stu also), but my comment was meant to be taken with the most acidic, mocking tone possible.
