aftermarket radio is stupid
I have a 95 lx with an aftermarket radio
I didn't install the radio, but whoever did did a terribad job.
The radio build is the type where you can push a button and the faceplate pops off, so I'm not sure what kind it is.
But the..."body" of the radio slides around like crazy, probably because it wasn't ever locked into position.
So I could live with that, but I think the wiring is all kinds of messed up.
Very rarely do I get a solid, equal amount of sound and treble and bass and all that stuff from all my speakers. I get equal levels of noise from the speakers (to my knowledge), but the quality always sounds often. It usually seems like I get one of three sounds:
-usually really loud instrumental with really soft vocals
-occasionally normal sounding instrumental/vocal mix
-always a loud thumping, deep within the speakers, much louder than the music
So what is bad with the radio, it's a DEH-42, it's old, I can't even find any manuals or anything for it online
I'll try and upload pictures of what it all looks like asap

ron, that looks magnificent.
I found an installation manual, it's not very descriptive, but it shouldn't be a tough job.
The problem is, I think it's been ghetto-rigged, which makes it tough
I can't get the casing out of the dash, it won't fit, but it slides around like crazy. I'll just try and find some more screws and just have at it.
thanks, I'll repost or bump if I need more help

Ok, so what is the cable called with the 16 terminals?
I have 2 slots in the back of my radio...well, I guess 4, but.
I have the antenna port
The port for the thing with the 16 terminals (whatever that's called)
And a red and...yellow or white output it looks like, they weren't being used.
I decided I'm gonna try and buy a new cable that has all those 16 wires before I go for a new radio.
It's driving me insane.

The 16 wire plug fits a stock radio. Aftermarket suppliers make a 16 wire socket that fits that plug, because the plugs on aftermarket radios are all different.
The proper way to install an aftermarket radio is to buy the socket and splice it to the wires on the plug supplied with the radio (which fits the radio). This is done at the comfort of a work table indoors, rather than out in the car. Then go to the car, remove the stock radio, plug the 16 wire plug to the new socket, and the new radio is hooked up.
If someone cut the stock plug out of your car doing a ghetto install, you can cut one out of a junked car and splice the wires to the wires in your car, so now your car is back ready for a stock radio or an aftermarket one done with the adapter plug. Always disconnect the battery before working on the wiring in the car.

The wires were all spliced before my ownership, but after playin around with it
if I move the wires in the plug that goes into the radio, they are -very- sensitive to movement...whenever I go over a bump, it either adds a speaker or detracts a speaker, basically.
I got the popping to stop, for now, and the back left speaker doesn't work
But...any way to fix that?
already spliced, almost like I guess I need a new set of aftermarket to re-splice it and try that new plug, which I think is the problem

Yes, rewire everything. I really recommend putting a Honda plug back onto your harness, that will make it very simple the next time you change the radio.
Also check the wires at the speakers, they're not going to be any better.
