Bass Tube?
#2
I never cared for the sound of bass tubes because I always thought the old Bazooka tubes sounded muddy. Don't get me wrong, they generally are highly efficient and don't take anywhere near the power that some subwoofers require to get loud.

I think you will be much happier with two 12 inch subs over a bass tube. I had a 10" self powered bazooka bass tube in my 2000 Accord coupe for a total of two weeks before I yanked it out. It was the size of a garbage can and sounded like garbage too!

I tend to steer people away from the tubes, and for one simple reason, if they break down, your out a speaker and an amp "for those who come with onboard amps" which is about 90% of them.
Tubes are designed for people that don't want hardly any bass at all, and usualy people who want to hide it all together.
Having an amp and at least 1 sub will sound at least 50% better then any tube, and you have much more option to fine tune your system to the type of music you listen to.
If space is the problem, many companies are now offering slim design subs and boxes that fit almost anywhere, and can work for anyone.
Just do your homework and use the search feature to read up on wire-ups and suggested brands. You can fit a nice little system together for around 200 or less that won't blow up in a few months.

I am sort of going through the same thing worrying about space... would this be a good alternative to a sub in the trunk? anyone know anything about this?

I may have been biased because I had a 2000 F150 extended cab with a JL Audio Stealthbox under my rear seat and most people thought I was lying when I told them I only had 2 8" subwoofers!
