Building Custom Sub Enclosure
Okay, so I've picked up all the goods to set up the system in my trunk, now I need to build my enclosures.
My ideal setup would be with my sub built into a box in the spare tire area. I know I'm going to need to build up the floor to get the height I need but how much is the question.
According to Kicker (who made the sub) this sub needs at least 1 cubic foot of volume to work right. My question is, can that 1 cubic foot of volume be in ANY configuration? Specifically I mean - the sub has a mounting depth of 6 1/4 inches so could I make the internal depth of the box 7 inches and adjust the length and width to make the volume total at least 1 cubic foot? Or would I have to make it deeper?
Other then that issue, I think I can handle the rest. If I need to figure out another arrangement I can, but that spare tire area is dead space, thought the sub would look good there.
Thanks for the help...

No it doesnt matter as long as it 1 cubic foot, but that is the very minimul (which means it isnt guna sound very good) My 12in rockford p2 is in a 13x20x26 and it sounds amazing. And the most important thing in a good system is the box, i would also recomend porting your box.

But you are right about the box being very important
Ported enclosures most certainly can result in quality bass. Then again, Kicker is not known to be a SQ driver. If you're looking for more lowend and higher quality bass, just build a larger sealed enclosure closer to a 0.707 qtc

exactly, not to insult, but think about it, if the bass is so distorted that it blurs out the words and you hear your cone on the speaker, it dosent sound good. i got sony explodes, the cheapest subs around. i turn my bass all the way down on the head unit and turn off bass boost on the amp, i keep the treble up, and it hits hard and clear. now if i was to turn the bass up and bass boost on, it would hit harder but all distorted.. go for quality, youll realize later on why we say this
1 cubic foot isnt enough to make any sub sound "good" unless your definition of good is ****. i work at a car audio shop and we build custom enclosures. the generic volume for a beatin' *** box is about 2 ft./cu to 2.4+. now it does matter if you are going sealed/vented.
lol and im going to just let you know right now, no matter what and how you put in the spare tire area, it will sound HORRIBLE. you are better off mounting 8"s on your deck if you want them hidden. just cant get good sound in that spare tire nook.
