Default Can I get suggestions for a new sub/s?

Hey guys, I just registered here, I've been browsing the forum for a few days now... I've got a 04 Civic coupe.... pretty decent system excpet for the subs... I've got that cheap Dual bandpass system at Best Buy a while back....I need a new sub, I was thinking about maybe just 1 8 in or 10 in sub like a Audiobahn or maybe an Alpine type-r.... I would love the JL W6 but that's a little expensive any suggestions... thanks guys

Welcome to HCF. You would like the type r. Also look at the type x.

Thanks, also stupid question probably what's the difference between 2 ohm and 4 ohm, I've really just been researching speakers lately and never really bother to learn much about subs.

the only difference there is between 4 ohm and 2 ohm is the power you will get out of your amp. if you have an amp that can handle a 2 ohm load and you were putting a 4 ohm sub on it, the amp would only push half the power it is able too. usually mono amps handle 2 ohm loads (some go lower), and usually 2 channel amps handle 4 ohm bridged. So let us know what amp u have and we can tell you more on what sub to get. As for the type-r, i have the 12" type-r and love it, so i think that would be a good choice, and the type x's are double the price of the type-r, so if you really wanted the power of the type-x, i'd just get 2 type-r's instead. those type-r's are dual voice coils, and they come in dual 4 ohm and dual 2 ohm, so no matter what amp you have, you can wire the type-r to bring out the full potential of your amp

dual amp That's the link to the amp that came with the Dual bandpass subs I got at Best Buy. I was planning on getting a new amp for the Sub say a Alpine MRP-M350 or MRD-M605 if I got the 10 inch type-r and using the old Dual amp to power my Type-R 6x9s. Unless the Dual amp will power the Type-R Sub??? I don't think that would be a very good combo though, Dual isn't a very good brand although I like this amp. I'm still not decided on what do, I'm kinda of liking the 10 inch type r and one of those Alpine amps but some more Sub-Amp suggestions would be awesome

i have the mrd-605 powering my 12" type-r. the amp pushes out 600 watts RMS with a 2 ohm load at 14.4 volts, the type-r can handle 500 watts RMS (i think the 10" is 500 watts RMS also, right?). if you get the mrd-605, get the type-r in dual 4 ohm coils, and then i'll tell you how to connect it to get a 2 ohm load.

i always go a little higher wattage on the amp than the sub, or at least match it, never go under, cause when the amp reaches it's highest RMS watts, after that, it starts to produce distorted sound, wich is not good for subs and sounds like sh*t. so if you had a 300 watt amp and a 500 watt sub, when the amp would reach 300 watts, after that it would start distorting the sound, but your sub can still handle more power.
