Haywire Speedometer/Gauges
I just bought a 2005 Civic Si to replace my 2001 Civic DX [8D]. Upon removing my aftermarket stereo from the 2001 Civic and attempting to replace the stock stereoto get the ' 01 ready to sell, all my gauges went haywire. Now when I turn thekey just to the point where all the electronics turn on w/out starting the engine, all the gauges (speedometer, fuel, temperature) start fluttering really fast for the first few seconds and then return to normal. It also appears there may be no power going to the stereo now either, but I can't tell if it's the stereo itself or something else is fried. Any ideas as to why my gauges are fluttering abnormally now? And how I can fix it?
well first thing id do is pop the stock radio back inplace.... and see if the gauges act normal...... if so youll have to come up with ALOT more work to get your aftermarket radio to work in the new car..... like finding a new mounting location and rewiring the whole stereo!
it seems like alot of new car manufactures are hardwiring other features into the radios so they cannt be switched out......

We did pop the stock stereo back in, and the gauges still flutter. The stock stereo would not turn on eiter. So, it's as if there is no power going to the stereo outlet? I had my aftermarket stereo in this car for 5 years with no problems and once we unplugged the aftermarket to put back in the stock, this situation occured with the gauges. Any more ideas or suggestions?
check your wires then....... did you unplug ANY other conector? have you checked EVERY FUSE!!!!!!!! to ensure it has proper power...... could be something as small as a blown fuse.....
Yeah, a blown fuse has crossed my mind. I looked at them and didn't see any that were blown. Also, now I've noticed that my Civic no longer beeps when the driver's side door is open and the key is in the ignition like it used to. Second, the check engine light has now come on.
So now:
-gauges flutter for a first few seocndswhen key is turned on in ignition
-the check engine light is on
-door open alarm does not beep while key is in ignition any longer
-no powerto any stereo (tried both stock and aftermarket)
These 4 "symptoms" sound familiar at all?
Thanks for your suggestions & help!

well have you checked to see if the fuses are ACTUALY GOOD????
use a fuse tester or a test light on each side of the fuse! just cause they look good doesnt mean they are good!
other than that no clue.... unless you unpluged something and didnt plug it back in.... no clue sorry

it COULD be..... but just a COULD BE... hard to realy know... if all the fuses have power on both terminals then its something else
and i got no clue besides ya unpluged something and either didnt plug it back in or maybe you pulled a wire out of the harness plug and its not realy making a firm conection.... just hard to know without realy seeing it and playing with it...
