Vented. Trust me. Sounds better.

ya ported is most definately the way to go with the rockford subs. how long have you been building boxes? if you have some experience you should try slot porting. it looks and sounds awesome.

It really depends on how much space you have. A ported/vented box is gonna be up to twice as big as a sealed enclosure. If you have enough power, a sealed box has much tighter bass and response, but a vented box will be louder (if that's what you are going for). You don't need to buy pre-fab ports. Just calculate the volume of the recommended ports and make a slot port or "vent" that size. So much easier.

if you go with a 4X11 port you can just go get a foot of pvc pipe and cut an inch off each end. remember to paint the end of the pipe or it just looks dumb.

i've always had sealed boxes, but i ported sounds good too.

If you want boomy bass, port that thing. This sounds good for rap

If you want tight accurate (but still loud bass), seal it up. This sounds good for rock music

But make sure you get box specs on the sub to make it the right size.
