Cool monoblock amp question

So they are making all sorts of monoblock amps for subs these days, and most of them seem to have only 1 channel or 1 set of speaker outputs, which isn't a problem to split among 1 or 2 subs, depending on the amp, but what about the ones with 2 speaker outputs?

An example is this amp, my old favorite PP

http://cgi.ebay.com/2000-Watts-PPI-M...3286.m20.l1116

Couldn't find my usual sonicelectronix link, they seem to be updating.

Anyway, see the 2 speaker outs... I don't get it, is this just a convenience thing so that you don't have to split wires between 2 subs, or do you have to bridge it somehow?

Always thought monoblock was 1 channel, but the 2 speaker connections are throwing me. Any helpful info would be appreciated :-)

The two speaker connections are there to allow different wiring options, that is all. Instead of wiring everything up to one terminal, you could technically run wires from each subwoofer to the MONO block and parallel the connection there versus in the enclosure.

Also, make sure you wire them up correctly. A common rookie mistake I have seen is someone wiring their speaker terminals to both positives or both negatives and then they complained that their amplifier didn't work.

Default yeah that hurts

sure don't think I will run into that type of mistake.

Thanks for the info though. Kind of threw a curve in when i was trying to pick out an amp. Think I will stick with my old high school favorite, Precision power.

lol, that is totally subjective. I spent TWO years collecting Linear Power amplifiers to do an "old school" install only to sell all 10 amplifiers over a 2 month period. The ones I tried on the subwoofers were highly efficient because they would go into protect when things got hairy (1752 and LP150). An amp in protect is highly efficient because it draws no current! The amplifier that didn't shut down on me, a Linear Power 5002, would draw 85 to 90 amps to produce 500 watts RMS at 8 ohms. Can you say highly inefficient?

The Linear Power amplifiers I used for my mids and highs (1502IQs and a 652I) had inherent noise issues that were either related to the power supply design, self-oscillating versus PWM, or bad capacitors. I recapped one of the amps myself and sent one to TIPS for repair. Sadly, they still exhibited the same exact noise issues after repair as they had prior to the repair. The LP150 sounded pretty good on mids and highs and did not have the noise issues of the others and the 1752 was totally useless!

Now, I'll only use certain "Old School" Rockford Fosgate, Orion, PPI, or Soundstream products from here on out.
